Columbus, Indiana (population 39,000) is ranked sixth nationally
for architectural innovation and design by the American Institutes
of Architects. The list of other cities includes Chicago, New
York, Boston, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
• It is located north of Louisville, Kentucky; south of
Indianapolis, Indiana; west of Cincinnati, Ohio and east of
Bloomington, Indiana. The members of the Parish are drawn from
Columbus and the surrounding four counties.
• Columbus and the surrounding communities are areas of
manufacturing as well as farming operations. There are four
high schools in Bartholomew County. In addition, Ivy Tech State
College and Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus Campus
are located in Columbus.
• Columbus Regional Hospital is a regional referral center
fully which serves a 7-10 county area in Southeastern Indiana
inhabited by nearly one-third of a million people Columbus Regional
Hospital offers medical specialties and services that allow
individuals to stay closer to home without having to drive miles
away to a metropolitan area.
• There are numerous cultural opportunities throughout
the area including Ethnic Expo, Pop Fest, Indianapolis Philharmonic,
the Columbus Philharmonic, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra,
Octoberfest, a Scottish Festival, a Watermelon Festival as well
as community art shows and art exhibits. There are numerous
sporting events with city sponsored and private golf, tennis,
softball, and basketball tournaments, as well as activities
at the high schools and elementary schools.
